A year later

Sometime last year, I came across a blog that really impressed me. It gave me that sudden urge to do something with my own site. My old server had always been painfully slow, and for some reason that moment hit a nerve. On impulse, I moved everything over and bought a new server.

The cost jumped from 60 yuan a year to 500 yuan a year.

After spending that much, I figured I should finally put real effort into building a site I could shape however I wanted.

But things did not go the way I imagined. My technical skills were limited, and after trying for a while, I still could not make much of it work. To be honest, after those early failures, I almost gave up on blogging altogether. Later I thought about it again: the money had already been spent, and if I did not have the ability to do all the DIY things I had pictured, then I might as well focus on something simpler and more meaningful—recording everyday life.

That decision slowly turned into a habit over the past year. I ended up writing one or two life updates each month, and that has probably been the thing I have cared about most—and done best—since starting the site. No matter what else happened, at least that annual server bill was not completely wasted.

What I understand now is that if you calm down and keep doing one thing little by little, time itself starts to add weight to it. The sense of accomplishment that builds this way feels much stronger than the quick satisfaction that comes and goes in a moment.

Gratitude

Along the way, I met a lot of kind people. People who keep blogs tend to be generous, enthusiastic, and interesting.

When I ran into technical problems, some were willing to guide me directly and help me through them.

When I felt frustrated and wanted to complain, some left comments that genuinely encouraged me.

And during holidays, I even received warm wishes from fellow bloggers in different places.

Thank you to everyone who has been part of this little neighborhood around my blog. I hope things keep getting better for all of you.

I am going to keep at it.
